Answer: Nearly all of the players on Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker, etc have site sponsorships that either require them to make a quota of televised appearances in return for a yearly sponsorship package, or they receive a per appearance compensation based on the kind of appearance (appearing on weekly shows is worth much less money than appearing on a televised final table of a major poker tournament for example).

They do receive some minor compensation for doing the show, but most of the value in doing them is in self-promotion.

Question: my internet is losing me money on poker im in uk and with BT (who claim to be the most reliable) on the highest tariff .. what i want to know is how do poker players guarantee there internet is reliable? surely players like phil ivey dont risk millions online by having internet that goes off. my only thought is that they must sumhow connect to multiple internet broadbands and if one goes off the other one still keeps you online. how do i do this? or is ther a way of stopping my internet goin off all the time?

Answer: change your internet provider or play lower tournaments. I have internet connection and it stops 1 time in 2 months. I cant believe in UK you dont have good internet providers.

Question: I have an account with Full Tilt Poker.net. I haven’t dowloaded the .com software yet and haven’t been playing with real money. Can I create a .com account using one of the rakeback sites without any consequences, or would I have to stick with my .net account?
Thanks for the help guys. I think I’ll contact the support team before I do anything.

Answer: It’s against the TOS at Full Tilt to have more than one account. I’m pretty sure that the .net account is considered the same as .com. I wouldn’t risk messing with them on that front — they do tend to catch it and do suspend accounts. It’s a pain to have deposited and then find your account (with money) frozen. It’d really suck to be banned for that.

You might, however, want to contact support before you start playing with real money to see if there is some way to get rakeback once you start playing for real. Just talk to them. You might want to imply that you probably won’t deposit there if you can’t get rakeback, since you can sign up to other sites through rakeback places and get it. It might work, since they would rather you sign up for a real money account.

Question: In texas hold em if the board pairs what are the odds of having the paired card which would obviously turn into 3 of a kind. e.g the board is 47482 - what are the odds of having the four?

Answer: It depends on what other cards you’ve seen and what the other information tells you (e.g. what, if anything, the other bets tell you).

If you’ve seen no other cards (I don’t know how that happens, since you surely have seen your own cards at least), then the probability of one particular hand of 2 including exactly one of the two remaining fours is

(4 x 45)/(46 x 47)

(which is about 1/12 or odds of 11:1 against)
