In general, Texas Hold-em hands are decided the same as other forms of poker. However, due to the community cards, there are certain decisions in Hold-em that cannot occur in other forms of poker. For example, if there are a pair of aces on the board, and 2 players each have an ace in their hole cards, you must break the tie between two hands with 3 of a kind Aces.

Royal Flush - All royals are equal, suits have no value.

Straight Flush - Between 2 straight flushes, the one containing the higher top card wins.

4 of a Kind (quads) - Between 2 different quads, the one with the higher set of 4 wins (8888J beats 7777A). If both hands have the same set of 4, (i.e. 4 of a kind on the board) then the hand with the higher kicker (5th card) wins (5555A beats 5555K).

Full House - Between 2 different full houses, the one with the higher set of 3 wins (88822 beats 777AA). If both have the same set of 3, the higher pair wins (999KK beats 99944).

Flush - When comparing 2 flushes, the highest card determines the winner. If both have the same highest card, the second highest card decides. If the second highest are the same the 3rd decides, etc.

Straight - 2 straights are decided by the top card in the straight. A can be high or low but not both. (AKQJT beats A2345).

3 of a Kind - 2 sets of 'trips' are decided by the value of the card in the set (55539 beats 333KQ). Equal trips are decided by the highest kicker (7776J beats 77798)

Two Pairs - Multiple hands with 2 pair are decided by the highest pair (JJ224 beats 9977K), and if those are equal, by the 2nd pair (JJ884 beats JJ22K). If those are also equal the 5th card kicker decides (JJ22K beats JJ224).

One Pair - The highest pair wins when comparing one pair hands. If the pairs are the same, the highest kicker wins (JJA93 beats JJA87).

High Card - The hand with the better high card wins. If the highest cards are the same, the second highest are compared, and so on.
