A poker online question that should definitely interest you all this week
Question: We have Comcast Hi-speed internet with 2 computers connected thru 1 cable modem and a router. My husband and I play online poker for fun. We sometimes play against one another seated at the same table, but whenever we try to join the same table at poker.com, it says it detects the same IP address and won't let us both play at that table. Although it does allow us to play at seperate tables at the same time. Is there any way to change one of our IP addresses?
Answer: Your router is the point of contact to the internet through your ISP, Comcast. In the protocol, DHCP, an IP address is assigned to you or rather your router. Your router in turn assigns internal private IP addresses to the 2 PCs connected to it (whether physically attached with an Ethernet cable or wirelessly thru WiFi)
You could I suppose check with a neighbor who has an Internet connection and uses a wireless router and ask to use his router from your house and that way you would be using his routers ISP address. BUT, you will need to install a wireless adapter in one of your PCs and maybe even an amplifying antenna given that most WiFi connections don't go over 100 ft especially thru walls.
Your best bet would be to ask your ISP for two static IP addresses (not dynamically assigned but fixed by the ISP). This will however cost you $$$ and may not be worth it just to play a game.
Hopefully the above clears up any confusion.

It depends if your ISP offers a dynamic IP address. If so, it depends on how long your ISP leases IP Addresses. If you log your internet connection off and log back on after the lease has expired, you will usually be assign a different IP Address from the ISP's pool of available IP Addresses.

You could try using TOR and that would send you connection through the TOR network which would make it a different address. Otherwise you'd have to ask comcast to assign you two different IPs and that probably costs extra. Tor is free.

You can change your real ip address using several softwares which disguise your real ip address. you can find such softwares by typing "ip disguise" in the search engines. one i found is the website http://www.invisibleip.net

Yeah good luck, changing the IP isn't going to do any good. If you change it you and your husband still have the same IP just a different one than before. You can use the so called masking techniques, but they don't really work and some networks will deny your connection if they suspect foul play. The only way to truely get a second IP is to get a second connection from your ISP, there are other ways but none that are available to the public.

if you have a wireless adapter see if your neighbor has a wireless router and use their internet to get a different ip address and disconnect your ethernet cable from the back of the computer with the wireless adapter connected to it
