What’s this week’s poker rules question? Let’s dive straight in…
Question: I am looking to setup an annual poke run for my local pub. Are there any details or rules I should keep in mind while doing this?
Answer: I did this with a local group once.
The biggest detail is that you HAVE TO ADVERTISE - and not just a flyer pinned on a board at the Harley dealership. Get it in the local paper, have a decent charity to benefit (and no, a pub does not count as a decent charity - find a crippled kid or something), and get it out there on radio and TV.
Second biggest detail is that you MUST NOT have it on the same weekend as an established poker run. First, it's not done, and second, you will have little turnout.
Third biggest detail is that you should COORDINATE WITH THE LEOs. Let the cops, the sheriff, or whoever handles traffic in your neck of the woods, know what you are planning and ask their input and take their advice! Helps if a deputy or a cop rides … offer them a free membership in your club, and they'll handle the rest. BTW, if there are any legal issues with holding a Poker Run, this step will reveal them.
Fourth biggest detail is that you should HAVE A CHASE WAGON. If this event draws a lot of Harleys, there will be breakdowns. Provide a chase vehicle with a trailer that takes off last on the run to collect breakdowns, and the tables and such from the stops.
Those're the biggies. Hope that helps. Good luck!

research your local laws concerning gambling or mock gambling, and casino nights, talk to local law enforcement, and use the web to check out events already in place for ideas and tips.

In my state poker runs have recently come to attention of the State Attorney General. The traditional poker run has been ruled illegal (gambling) and and altered version is now used. Check the laws in your locale.
