A tough poker rules question this week. Let’s dive straight in
Question: My ambition is to rule the world. They wouldn't let her use it because it might " hurt some one's feelings". What's wrong with that? It's honest. Doesn't everyone, at some point, want to be in charge? And why stifle a 12 year old's ambitions!?
BTW, they found her second answer: To be a poker playing chef in Vegas much more acceptable.
I say, why settle?
Answer: LOL… that is crazy! I love her ambition to rule the world. Maybe it would end up a little better than it is now. I don't think that she meant she wanted to rule the world and every one in it brainwashing them with her crazy views. I hope she continues with her ambition to rule the world. Now, the poker playing chef in Vegas part is HILARIOUS!!!!!

No worse than saying she wants to be president, nothing wrong with that. Ruling the world, huh? Doesn't have any "6' tatoos on her, does she? LOL

That is total BS.

So sad. I think she'd be a great ruler.

I'd have to agree with you…hell, at least she has an ambition at all!

Her first answer should have been allowed. As to why only God knows that.

public schools just want to farm mediocre kids….just make sure you develop her interests, her teachers probably wont.

i don't know???
2 kids in NYC got in trouble for using quotes form Hitler that weren't racist, sexual, belittling to a specific group or person, religious extremes, etc.

your right. if your daughter wanted to say that she should of been allowed. rulling the world could mean different things. of course she cant be God. but she could be President or something else.
her answer just means that she is a very smart girl and that she wants to get far in life. so keep encouraging her.

Maybe "rule the world" is associated with terrorism these days….seriously. Who knows? Why do people have a problem with the pledge of allegiance being said in school now? When I was in school we said it every stinkin' day, no questions asked. Things have changed in recent years….it's really quite pathetic. I think her "rule the world" ambition could have been worded differently if that's really what she wanted in the yearbook….maybe "become President" would have been acceptable.

The people who are trying to keep her down are afraid of her powerful justice. Tell your daughter she can rule the world all she likes…but even when she does, you're still her mom!
June 23, 2007
Come on, mom. You should have put in what she actualy will do: Get married, have 2 kids, get divorced, go to therapy, get married again, and live off the government. Just settle.

Molloygog, I agree with you — what can possibly be wrong with your daughter answering she want´s to rule the world — 'Hurt someone'? How about offending and hurting your daughter by their inane decision. I would most certainly ask for a better explanation, if for nothing else but to defend your daughter´s self-respect, and remind them, she might just rule the world someday…. so, don´t settle! Be well.

Schools are now required to tell people WHAT to think instead of HOW to think. I know….rip her out of that school and homeschool her…it won't be long before government rips all the funding from the education system to make more war weapons. It did wonders for Russia, or USSR or Republic of United Communist Nations, or whatever the hel! they call themselves now.

That is just odd to me. Had she said she wanted to lead the world into helping and loving eachother they most likely wouldn't have cared. But in reality, that would have meant the same thing as ruling the world, pretty much. Maybe they should have just asked she elaborate rather than just denying her completely of her curious ambitions. I am rather impressed that your 12 year old daughter already has the mindset to become a powerful and independent woman. I think her school should agree, unless there was a stroke of jealousy that someone her age would think along those lines, when they can't themselves.

I don't see what's wrong with that ambition, If she were to somehow actually pull it off, without oppressing some group, race or religion, and she actually cared about everyone she ruled as apposed to the greed that rules the earth today, it would be an admirable ambition to work toward. It's sad that a school would try to suppress a child's imagination, they should nurture free thought as opposed to dictating what way you should think, as in some dictatorships around the world.

OK think about it for a second.
Being presedent of the U.S. sure it could happen.
Leader of industry sure sure it could happen.
Star of stage and screen. sure it could happen.
Rule the world…
a. Impossible many have tried.
….and think about those who tried not real well liked.
b. Tends to require volent take over. Gee nothing offencive there.
c. Sounds like looking to have everyone else as your subject.
Um, Yea, I could see how they might expect a 12 year old to be a little more realistic than this and might condiser that it could be offencive.
World domination isn't just a simple ambition, it's a little off, at least for a 12 year old, younger child no problem but 12 yea it's a streach.
June 23, 2007
ok……I think the reason they gave for not printing it rather stupid.
I dont know how that would hurt someone's feelings…
I would be more afraid that it would encourage a 12 year old girl's plans for world domination.
Maybe the reason you're daughter said that was to be cutesy, but maybe you should consider that she is feeling powerless over her world at the moment.
June 23, 2007
Does it not worry you that your daughter appears to be suffering from incipient megalomania? I don't think that 'to rule the world' is the kind of answer that a normal child of her age would give. I would look at the way you are raising her if I were you.You got a big problem there lady.

Nurture her independent thinking.SHE IS YOUR DAUGHTER DON'T LISTEN TO THE JERKS ON HERE . you seem to be intelligent and creative and you have passed that on. I wish I could e-mail an article my uncle sent me about how many famous people were told they would go no where.! Be her cheerleader. She will go far!
