Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:
Question: Could you please tell me if there are and what they are called/how you enter them. I know that there used to be anyway but I can’t seem to find them now.
Answer: You can play "Freeroll" tournaments for free and win money, which is better than paying using play chips.
In the Full Tilt lobby, click on Tournament | Cash | All | All Types | Freerolls/FTPs
All the freerolls are listed there. Some require passwords and some are specific to certain countries, but you can find some no-requirement freerolls there. You can also find out the passwords via internet searches if you are persistent.

at the site i play, you can start your own tournament, and or join other tournaments made by other players and yep there’s a freerolls also
might be the same with full tilt poker
