A tough poker question this week. Let’s dive straight in
Question: em’ or ‘em ??
In the song "Poker Face", there are lines:
I wanna hold em’ like they do in Texas please
Fold em’ let em’ hit me raise it baby stay with me
=I wanna hold them like they do in Texas please
=Fold them, let them him me. Raise it, baby. Stay with me.
Here, I just wonder why em’ has the apostrophe after em, not BEFORE (’em), even though it is the abbreviation of them. th of ‘them’ is dropped, so I think the apostrophe should be BEFORE em, as ‘em.
Any reason, it is written as em’ ??
Thanks in advance.
Answer: I think that was just a mistake. I’ve never really seen anybody use " em’ " before.

It’s "I wanna hold him like they do in Texas plays".

‘em is short for Them. The missing letters are before the em so it’s in the right place.

Its just the way the english language was made. It would be a very difficult language to learn if there was punctuation so looked into like that.

That’s a mistake, and I think it’s Texas Plays, too.
