A tough poker question this week. Let’s dive straight in
Question: I’m hosting a Texas Hold Em’ game tonight for 8 people. Any idea of the chip stack everyone should start with and the denominations?
Cheers guys
Answer: take a look at http://www.pokerinthepub.com/venue-owner/how-does-the-league-work
I play this each week with these blinds and chips and the game typically takes around 3 hours ish with 30 odd players.

A 500 piece chip set would do well. I think a 200/150/100/50 is best, start everyone with T1000.
This article should help http://www.homepokertourney.com/chips_needed.htm

At a ‘family’ game I play in each week, we start with $14,000 in chips each, and the blinds start at $100 - $200. Personally, I think that’s too short of a stack (only 70 big blinds), but this is the way they want it.
It doesn’t really matter what you call the chips or the denominations. In stead of making our chips worth $100, $200, $500, $1,000, and $2,000, we could have just made out chips $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20, and told everyone they had $140 to start the tournament. It really is the same thing. I think it makes my family feel better knowing they have 14 THOUSAND dollars when they start the tournament.
Whatever you choose, have at least 100 big blinds to start at your lowest level. Have MORE than that if you want an extra long tournament. Have less if you don’t want it to last too long. With 70 big blinds in my home game, the game usually lasts about 3 hours. (That’s also because our blinds also go up too high, too quickly.)
One more thing - think about what the people will do when they are KNOCKED OUT of the tournament. Will they just have to sit there? Are they expected to leave? Is there something else for them to do? Of course this all depends on what sort of event you’re hosting. If it’s a bunch of friends, have something else for them to do afterwards.

If it’s a cash game, all depends on the buy-in and blind structure. If a tournament-like set up, again depends on blind structure…you can always chip-up perodically and reuse lower denomination colors for higher ones once they’re no longer in play.

1000 worth of chips would be enough. It’s always enough for me and my friends when we play.

Give everyone $10000 in chips. Black chips are $100 and red chips are $500
25 red chips per person 200 chips = 12500
50 black chips per person 300 chips = 5000
If you have green chips you can make it $1000 chips. White chips can be $10000 chips. Blue chips can be $25000 chips.
Blinds start at 100-200 small blind-big blind and should go up every 10 minutes. No rebuys unless everyone decides it’s okay to rebuy. If so, give them the same amount in chips. Winner takes it all with the exception of the second place finisher gets their money back. If you don’t have enough chips to go around, just divide the chips by color and give everyone an equal amount and start playing. Good luck and may all your card be live and your pots be monsters!!!
