A poker question that should definitely interest you all this week
Just playing a one table sit and go, £15 buy in, 9 of us. I play well at the beggining, seems to be a tight table and me and the guy sitting to my direct right bullied the table and got lots of chips early. When there was 6 of us left i had a stack of about 6000, and the guy to my right about 5000, 3rd place was on about 1500. So i decide to focus on the big stacks game.
I watch him play, the first big confrontation we had i flopped 2 pair on a dangerous looking board, flush and straight possiblities, and in the end he calls down my bets and rivers the flush he was calling for (fair enough). Keep on watching him play and it looks like (he was) bluffing the river ALOT, and big . A few more hands develop between us (short stacks just fold away), I was waiting for my opertunity to catch him out (i noticed for some reason he would call every raise i made in late position instantly, he would only call my bets, and when he did he always raised after the flop) He must have though i bluffed alot (which i clearly did not at this table) and i made some rather big laydowns to him whilst gathering this information (2 pairs, and top pair good kicker), i wanted to catch him out and wait for him to reraise me when i was strong. It seemed the perfect hand came as blinds reached 150/75. I got KK in position and made my raise to 550, the guy instantly calls my bet again, and a small stack moves all in for like 250 more, we both call and flop comes 2 4 9 rainbow. I make my c-bet with a strong looking hand, bet about 3/4 of the pot. Then as expected the guy to my right pushes all in instantly. I though i found my moment and called…Funnily enough it was the short stack who had the goods with a set of 4’s, but the side pot between me and the guy to my right was much bigger (about 8500 which was like 70% of the chips in play), and what does he turn over TO MY DELIGHT!! 10 Jack suited. I got the bugger!! or did i…
the turn came a 8
the river came a Queen
I got up and shouted, and watched this guy who i had 100% figured out, rake in all my chips when he was trying to bluff them all away. For me this is the worst kinf of beat, worse than the runner runner one outter
I hate it when have figured somebody out, try and wait for the right moment, make some big fold, but then get sucked out on anyway. Their is no justice in poker
u calling me a wuss mate?! ill kick ur head in so u better watch ur mouth. I can take a bad beat, just venting a little anger, so ur an idiot jack
thank you for the info all, and Ed funnily enough i did used to play competetive chess, for london and england, but that was when i was under 15…sad times lol
This is actually a good thing for you unless this was completely an isolated incident and he normally plays differently. You should be able to destroy him in the future. Sure he will beat you from time to time…you always want less skillful players to win occassionally so they keep coming back.
As for Jack’s comments, don’t freak out. Admit it that your post is a Bad Beat story and everyone has them, and they can get tiring. However, realize that what you did was 100% correct. Poker is about reducing your mistakes and capitalizing on everyone else’s…even inducing them to make more. When I figure out someone, I go looking for them…..helps keep the bankroll up.
Have Fun!

It’s his day. got a straight out of nothing and win all the chips. Technically, his chance of getting straight hand is only 1 to 2,704. Cheer up dude

Waaaah. Did you have a question, you friggin’ baby?
If you can’t take bad beats, then don’t play poker. Maybe you should go the movie theater and watch Sex and the City 2, wuss.

Hello
This happens more times, for more money in poker than you could possibly imagine,
You got all your chips in in front, (well done after all this is the object of the game)
KK vs JTos on a 2/4/9 board is a %94.44 against %5.56 Happy days
He should never have called, a complete Donk move, but you want to play players like this because its how you will make money in the long run,
We all have to feed the fishes some times dude =]
On another note if you shouted at me i would do all i could to wind you up at every game we played afterwards, through banter/bluffs raising your blinds etc, a player on tilt doesn’t think clearly,
When you take an awful beat (as this is) you should shake your head, smile, look at him in the eyes & say nice hand, (you don’t have to mean it) & move on to the next game,
Now every time you come across this guy again your armed with invaluable Information, (hes a calling station) he will call you down with rubbish, your going to take this guy out more often than not & make loads of money out of him, positive result, & it only cost you £15!!!
Learn to take beats its part of the game, sick some times but thats poker
Papa =]

It sounds like you should take up competitive chess… no luck involved in that game.
