This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:
Question: My boyfriend plays online poker and sometimes he doesn’t win he gets upset and I don’t really know what to say to cheer him up because he lost money and I don’t play poker so I don’t know how it feels. What can I say to make him feel better? Or should I not say anything and just listen if He has something to say? I just hate when I don’t have advice to give.

Answer: most people that are highly competitive - often times when they lose - they dont want to be around people - they are in STEAM mode - lol and anything can often set them off
its often best to give them an hour to so - to moan and complain about how they got shafted - even if it was totally their fault….lol
most people come around after the steam wears off…lol then they realize they were being difficult or stupid and they usually come around!

No matter how good someone is at poker they will have losing days. He needs to accept that fact, he won’t win every time he plays.
Even the best players in the world don’t win every time they play. He needs to play at stakes that are within his bankroll, so a bad run of cards doesn’t wipe out all his money.

This is not a stupid question at all. Online poker is a bad addiction I know because i played for 5 years before i stoped. When I would win i be happy and the losing days I was mad. 90 percent of people who play online poker lose.
To answer your question there is nothing you can say to cheer him up. You can do things to get it off his mind but that wont last very long. Best thing you can do is try and get him to stop before it takes over his life.
The one thing you can do to make him forget is what guys love more then gambling it self sex. Try to get him turned on and he will forget about the poker and have a new mission to get you. However this wont cure the problem from happening agian
Go online find articles and stories of people who lost everything print it out and show him. Show him facts of online poker how 90 percent of people who play lose and actually do become addicted to it.

poker is a game of luck
he thinks that he wins because he played well and when he loses he thinks he was unlucky.
truth is when he wins he was lucky and when he loses he is unlucky.
he cant control luck. better for him to dedicate more of his time to things he can control.

He’s the one with the problem and you’re the one ought to need cheering up if he’s moping about gambling losses. He’s doing what he chooses to do and part of gambling involves losses. It’s a piece of the gestalt. If he doesn’t like that part of it he needs to do something else.
But the whole thing is outside the boundaries of your relationship with him and it shouldn’t intrude, requiring you to feel some sort of intervention is needed on your part.
Tell him if he gets angry or depressed when he loses and he carries it into his interactions with you he needs to send you a dozen roses every time he loses. You ain’t there as the mama side of a dependency relationship to tell him it’s all okay when the other side of his choices bite him in the butt.
