Another poker question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: I was playing in 888 poker they give you $8 to play with initially and it seemed I was dealt great hands and great outs in early games over and over as they seem to try and get you hooked and when you start winning a lot and building your balance then you get dealt poor hands at various stages in a day and you get other players beating you with hands that have low probability of occurrence so it is not a way to play poker on the level in what I have seen. They obviously want you to lose and deposit cash. Well I used their initial free sum and doubled it and that is when they gave me no hands and low probability outs so the term is they suck you in - you think you have the highest probability to win but you lose over and over again even though you hold the best hand for about a hundred plays you lose every one to low probability outs so they sucker your cash away so that you deposit more. I have removed the software of 888 and will not be using my own funds for this online poker as it seems bizarre results over and over is not statistically right, better to play with real cards with mates than play online poker - have you found the same scenario? Do you think online poker is somehow rigged?
Answer: It might "feel" rigged but that’s just your perception of what’s happening. The reality is you were probably playing really high with respect to what you had in the account…which is why you were fortunate enough to double the money so quickly. Then eventually you lose because you’re moving up too fast and you’re not really likely skilled enough to beat the game anyway.

All poker sites (poker stars, pkr, 888 etc) usually give you free money when you start but what you are dealt and all the other players is randomly generated as it is illegal to rig the deck so a certain person loses. \the flop, turn and river is also randomly generated. You must of just been getting really unlucky.

Of course they give you money to suck you in, but that does NOT mean on-line poker is rigged.

You just started playing on-line recently. The people you are playing have been studying and playing on-line much longer than you. You THINK you know how to play poker well, but the truth is, these folks know it better.

EVERYONE gets bad beats. The difference between losing players and winning ones is that losing players put themselves into situations where they’ll get bad beats more often, and winning players don’t whine about their bad beats when they do happen. They understand it’s all part of the game, and they somehow find a way to win in the long run anyway.

After playing an estimated 500 000 hands on Pokerstars and Party Poker over a few years of playing online, with complete records of about half of them, I an entirely convinced that online poker is fair.
There are many players who have records of many millions of hands, and yet nobody has come forward with any evidence that online poker is rigged. (And think how much that information would be worth, if it existed. Think how much Full Tilt would pay to put pokerstars out of business, for example)

I have not seen any big hand (aces, kings etc) any more or less than I would expect. And my hands have held up just as many times as they should, no more no less.

If you are losing at online poker it is because you are a bad player, or you used poor bankroll management, or you played an insignificant number of hands (I call anything less than 20 000 hands insignificant)
I suspect it’s a mixture of all three.

Nope, there is just a high amount of variance and with a small bankroll like that you stand very little chance even as a good player. Typically playing cash games you should have a minimum of 20 buy-ins if you are much better than your opponents and as a beginner you won’t be, and with $8 even that aggressive bankroll management is not possible.

there have been times when it seems rigged but I know its not. They get paid no matter who wins. The risk would be far too great. A lot of people seem convinced its rigged but some of them say its rigged for bad players some of them say for new players. Other people say its just set up for people to make big hands.

To me and many of my friends (among which, many are professionals) the same prospect has accured.
Although this might be the truth, I and my friends are in profit. We all started off with a 150$ free money which we got from http://www.howtoplaywinningpoker.com and we have grown the amount to 4digit and more.
