What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: When at a casino , and playing a 2/4 limit texas hold’em poker game. Should you always the first 2 cards if their of the same suit ? If not, what are the exceptions ? maybe 2-7 , 2-8 ?

any help is much appreciated.

Answer: If you’re on the Small Blind and there was no raise ahead of you then yes you can limp with any suited hand. But from any other spot there are more suited hands you should fold than limp with.

In early and middle position the suited hands you can at least limp with are:
———————–
- Any suited ace
- Any suited face-ten or face-face
- 9 suited with any card 8 or higher (98, 9T, 9J…)

In late position the suited hands you can at least limp with are:
—————-
- Any suited ace
- Any suited king
- 8 suited with any card Q or higher
- 7 suited with any card J or higher
- Any suited 0-gap connector 34 or higher
- Any suited 1-gap connector 35 or higher

It matters first off on your definition of a flush. In some games the highest card of a flush determines the winner, in other the highest card that is different between the two hands. Normally it is the former.

Then you have to really ask yourself how comfortable you are with your cards. If you have a flash and your have a 2H 4H with an A Q and K of Hearts on the board, how confident are you going to be to play … especially when someone else might be representing the flush as well.

No, you probably shouldn’t, since the chance of you catching the flush aren’t worth the amount you risk for the amount you’d win.

Stick to suited Aces so you can make nut flushes and suited connected cards that give you additional straight value. Player more hands from late position.

    Short answer, no.

    Long answer, see DividebyZero’s post…additions:
-Your range is a lot more dynamically based on how many limpers there are in the pot and how many seats you are away from the button. So your limp range should be loosest from button or small blind when you have 4 or more limpers.
-When facing a raise its a completely different scenario and a lot more hands become hands you should fold.
-When it’s an unraised/unopened pot especially from late position these hands become more of a "raise or fold" type option. The probability of winning the blinds & cbet opportunities usually beats playing an unraised limped pot.
