A poker question that should definitely interest you all this week
Texas Hold’em
Omaha - Played exactly like Hold’em expect that all player are dealt 4 hole cards instead of 2, and the winning hand must use 2 and only 2 hole cards (no more, no less) to be considered the winning hand.
Omaha Hi Lo - A variation of Omaha where the best hand wins half the pot, and the player with the lowest cards (must be 8 or lower) wins the other half of the pot. This game can get a bit confusing if you’ve never played and are trying to enforce the rules, but it’s alot of fun. For a low hand, the winner must use only 2 and no more than 2 of their hole cards to determine the low hand, so there must be 3 other low cards of different ranks (8 or lower) on the board for the pot to even qualify for the split. It is also possible for a player to win both pots. If say a player has AAK2 and the board comes KK345, the player would win the high pot with 4 Kings, and the low pot with the “nut” low, A2345. When a player wins both pots, this is called a “scoop.”
7 card stud - Dealt by dealing 2 hole cards and 1 up card to each player. Then another up card, then another, then another. The final card is dealt face down. Betting rounds take place after each deal. 7 stud can also be played Hi/Lo
Razz - Dealt the same way as 7 card stud, but the players are playing for the 5 lowest cards. Straights, flushes, pairs, etc. mean nothing. Only the 5 lowest cards win.
HORSE - A mix a hold’em, omaha h/l, razz, 7 card stud, and 7 stud hi/lo. Games switch eat set increments, say every 10 hands or every 10 minutes.
Badugi - 4 hole cards are dealt with 3 rounds of “draws.” The players with the lowest cards win, unless someone has a badugi. A badugi trumps all other hands. A badugi is 4 different ranked cards of different suits. When 2 or more players have “badugi,” the player with the lowest cards in their badugi wins. Like razz, pairs, straights, flushes, etc mean nothing.
5 or 7 card draw - Players are dealt 5 or 7 cards face down. Typically played with 1 round of draws. High hands win.
