What’s this week’s poker question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: me and my m8s had a argument over a rule whilst playing poker:
we had dealt the river card and one person bet and the other person called
the person who bet just mucked his cards then the other person left pushes his cards forward with out showing so i turned them over and told them ya have to show two cards to claim a pot there were sayin i dosnt matter the other person folded which then i sed u still havr to show two cards which they argued about can someone explain
Answer: At every casino I’ve played at (all of AC, most of Vegas), it’s like you said– you must always show two cards to win the hand, even if the other player mucks. If both players muck then it’s a split pot, the 2nd mucker doesn’t get the whole pot. (But usually if the 2nd person starts pushing his cards in, the dealer will tell him to flip them over. Or if he only shows 1 card, the dealer will tell him to show both.)

And no, the last aggressor doesn’t have to show unless the other guy asks to see them before they hit the muck. There are two drawbacks to asking– one, if the person had a winning hand and didn’t know it, the hand is now live, and two, it’s bad etiquette and pisses people off.

the person who bets first must show their hand then the other player can either muck if beat or show if they have the other player beat.

The last aggressor has to show their cards no matter what, the next player(s) to the left have the option to show theirs. Obviously if they claim they have won then they have to prove it. However if the last aggressor bets and gets a call but (you would have to be mental to do this) throws his cards into the muck then he has lost the pot regardless and the player remaining takes it down. If it just checked down from flop to river then the players left in the hand show theirs going clockwise from the button.

The last aggressor is always the first to show their hand in every place I have played. I personally would never show my cards until I know their hand first. You would find if it came to it and neither was willing to show first then the last aggressor would be told to show his.

It absolutely depends on the card room. Where I play, if someone bets, then gets called, then the bettor mucks his hand, the caller does NOT have to show his hand. He’s the only player left with cards, and he gets the pot. Period.

This is your house, (or your friend’s house). You all just need to make this decision amongst yourselves. Frankly if a person mucks his hand, I don’t think the other person should be required to show their cards. Everyone knows that it was a bluff, so what’s the big deal? If you really want to find out what the person called you with, then go ahead and show your bluff and make the other player show their hand. If you choose not to show your bluff, then I think the other person shouldn’t be forced to show their call.

Again - that’s just my opinion. Different card rooms have different rules.

It depends on the casino. At my local casino if the other person mucks their hand you Do Not need to show your hand to win the pot. This is probably the exception and not the rule though.
