I just love answering these poker questions. Here’s another:

Question: ALLEN CUNNIGHAM SUGGEST ONLY PLAYING SUITED CONNECTERS BY ONLY INVESTING 5% OF YOUR STACK HOWEVER CHRIS FERGUSON SUGGESTS THAT IF YOUR GOING TO ENTER A POT ITS ALWAYS MORE PROFITABLE TO RAISE… HOWEVER IF I HAVE SUITED CONNECTORS WITH 25 BIG BLINDS WHATEVER I RAISE I WILL ALWAYS BE COMMITING OVER 5% OF MY STACK… WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Answer: with 25 big blinds in mid position it’s a really easy fold unless the table is very tight. You don’t have pot odds to raise, and open limping is weak as someone behind will likely raise just to isolate you, forcing you into a big pot with a crappy hand or making you fold and giving away a big blind for free.
There are only two positive outcomes, you raise and everyone folds; you raise and get 1 caller, who folds to a c-bet. You don’t have enough behind to extract a lot if you do hit so fold>>raise>>limp.

    Then fold.

(or maybe realize there aren’t hard and fast rules for every situation… why not ask Jessica)

It’s not always more profitable to raise by any means. Making a flush when you have suits is about a 12% chance, and making a straight is even less than that. Suited connectors are not a particularly strong hand, and when blinds are low I tend not to play them at all unless I’m itching for a flop, or it’s late in the tournament. Mid game, if you’re really looking for some action, I’d limp in with suited connectors unless they’re above an 8. Other than that, you’re most likely throwing away chips when you should be in survival mode.

limp to get more callers and the implied odds make this the correct play …you are aiming at a call raise and then move out other limpers……

Ferguson suggests to raise if it’s folded to you and you plan on playing your hand. You should rarely if ever open limp. If the pot has already been raised or limped into. It’s ok to limp too especially with connectors (suited or not) maybe even suited gappers. You can’t always say that well if i have this hand then I should do this. Poker is about situations, what position are you in, what did your opponents do before, what stage of the game am I in, what are the blinds, are there antes, etc….and many more before you worry about your hand.

raise so if you do hit the flop they won’t see it coming and you could then hit em where it hurts
