A tough poker question this week. Let’s dive straight in
Question: in poker, (texas hold’em) does three pair beat three of a kind?
like thisss….
(my cards) 2, 4
(cards in the middle) 2, 4 , 6 , 6, 9
theres 3pairs there. but would that beat 3 of a kind? ![]()

Answer: No. You must play the best 5 cards out of the seven available to you. So, three pair is not possible as you cannot play 6 cards. Your hand would be two pair (6’s & 4’s with a 9 kicker). The pair of deuces does not play and it’s known as being ‘counterfeited’. So, your hand would lose to three of a kind. Using your example, if one of your opponents held a 6 in their hand, they would have three 6’s and they would win.
Hope that helps!

no because there is no such thing as a three pair it will use the best of the pairs so three of a kind is better

In standard poker, a hand is 5 cards. Three pair is not a hand, you would only use the best two of the three plus a kicker (which may or may not be one of the cards making the third pair.) In your case, your best hand is 66449, which would lose to any 3oak (and probably any other hand taken to the showdown…chance are your 2 pair on the flop might’ve been best, but the second 6 counterfeited your deuces).
