I wasn’t aware that atheists played a lot of poker, especially considering how superstitious gamblers in general are. Seems a bit of a contradiction.

It would never happen because I do not and never have played poker. I leave that to my superstitious friends (usually Christians). Now if I happened across an old man gasping for breath I would used my limited first aid to help him 1/ be comfortable and 2/ breath easier. then I would phone 999 on my mobile and ask for an ambulance. I would know that the NHS, because it is free at the point of need, would look after the poor guy.

As a greedy and selfish atheist who cares about nothing and no one but myself, I would offer him help as an excuse to get close enough to him to rob him for extra poker money. I could just knock him over and grab it but that might get me arrested.

Ask him if he is Ok, (this may be his natural state)
If he is not ok, get him to sit down and call an ambulance. I appreciate that things are different in the US. Here in the UK, medical treatment is free for anyone who needs it so I wouldn’t have to check his bank balance or anything. Just get him to hospital and stay with him until medics arrive.
