The strategies in online poker is different in real life poker..

    1. Play tight and aggressive – This means only taking strong starting hands and folding the rest. You won’t play as often, but having strong starting hands dramatically improves your chances of winning and gives the impression that you always have good cards whenever you play.

Aggressive play means raising when you get strong hands, such as the following:
    AA, KK, QQ, JJ, 1010, 99, AK-suited
This will knock out weaker players from the round and increase your chances of winning.

On the other hand, you should only call with these hands:
    AK-unsuited, KQ, QJ, J10, AJ, KJ, Q10, J10
Pay attention only to these starting hands and fold the rest.

    2. Protect your hand – Bet or raise if you happen to land a good hand. Any player can get lucky with a set or a straight at the turn or river, so your best strategy is to knock them out before they get there. Unless you have the best possible hand on the flop, don’t try to be clever by simply calling or you might end up with nothing.

    3. Use pot odds – Your best source of information are the cards you can see. First, know the number of outs you have. Outs are cards that can improve your hand. Multiply this number by 2 then add 1. This is the approximate percentage chance of you landing one of these outs. If you have K? Q? and the flop is J? A? 3?, then you have 4 outs to make a straight and 9 outs to make a flush. This translates to 17% chance for a straight and 19% chance for a flush. This means you can justify betting about 25% of the pot’s value, because you have approximately that much chance of landing a winning combination.

    4. Pay attention to your position – the further you are from the dealer button, the weaker your position is. You don’t want to play weak cards from early positions because there may be a string of other players making bets behind you. If you land strong pocket pairs like AA and KK, you should raise no matter what your position, but you should still pay attention to how people bet in succeeding rounds.
