Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: I was playing on an online poker site and here was the setup:

I had: 3 (hearts) and a Queen (diamonds)

The table had: King (clubs) Jack (clubs) Jack (diamonds) Queen (clubs) 3 (diamonds)

Other guy had: 8 (spades) and a Queen (hearts)

We ended up splitting. I had two pairs, the queens and threes. He had just a pair of queens.

Was this because of the top 5 cards? I don’t understand…

Answer: With Hold ‘em, you don’t have to use the cards in your hand. So the best hand either of you could make was two pair (Queens and Jacks) with a King kicker.
